Treatment of Lines and Wrinkles
Botox® injections are a very effective treatment to reduce lines and wrinkles on the forehead, frown lines and face. They are our most popular treatment at Face360 London.
All our Botox® injections are given by fully qualified and experienced cosmetic doctors, who specialise in tailoring the strength of your treatments to your individual needs. This means if wanted, you can retain some expression of the facial muscles, giving a more natural and subtle look.
The treatment itself takes around 15 minutes to complete and after the treatment you can drive or head back to work immediately, no recovery period is needed. It is an extremely safe procedure.
We offer a free follow up with a doctor two weeks after every Botox® treatment to ensure that the treatment meets your expectations, If necessary a free top up of Botox® can be given at this appointment.
The following are commonly treated areas :
Forehead wrinkles appear as horizontal lines on the forehead which are more prominent when you raise your eyebrows. To treat these, small injections are given on the forehead
Frown lines can be seen as vertical lines in between the eyebrows and are common in people who frown a lot or have been overexposed to the sun. Small injections are licensed to treat these lines, in between and along the brow.
Lines and wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process as skin is less effective at repairing itself overtime. Genetic and environmental factors also play a part. For example, smoking, a high-sugar diet, lack of sleep and stress can all affect cell repair and collagen production.
Botox or anti-wrinkle injections are a popular and very effective way of treating lines and wrinkles. We inject very small quantities of botulinum toxin (Botox) into the skin to relax the facial muscles and create a brighter, smoother complexion.
Anti-wrinkle injections relax targeted muscles in the face smoothing out lines and wrinkles giving you a natural more youthful appearance. For men and women in their mid to late 20s and 30s, this treatment can also be used as a preventative measure against ageing, lines and wrinkles.
Low or dropping brows can make someone look tired, angry or older than they are. A non-surgical eyebrow lift using a series of anti-wrinkle injections into the group of muscles which pull the eyebrows down can elevate the brow back to its natural youthful position.
Botox® can also be used to achieve an eyebrow raise or “Chemical Brow Lift”. Carefully placed injections around the brow can raise the eyebrows by about 3 millimeters. This can open up the eyes and in women give a more youthful appearance.
When people think of Botox® (Botulinum toxin injections), most will commonly associate it with smoothing wrinkles and improving the appearance of the skin. However, there are other uses, less widely known, which can have equally as pleasing aesthetic benefits, as well as medical benefits too.
One such use is to alter the shape of the jawline. A square jaw is one typically associated with a traditionally masculine appearance, whilst a softer more oval jaw line is often desirable on females. Women ask for this treatment to soften and reduce the appearance of a square jaw. Men may also feel the size or shape of their jaw is not in harmony with the rest of their face, and so this treatment is popular for both men and women.
A square jaw can be caused by overuse of the jaw (Masseter) muscles, causing these muscles to enlarge and giving this distinctive square jaw appearance. This might happen in people who regularly chew gum, or who grind their teeth at night – anything that works these muscles. In others, the masseter muscles are naturally stronger and larger, even without excessive use.
The use of toxin injections in this area involves 3 almost painless injections into the muscle on each side of the jaw. Over the following 2 weeks, the treatment works to relax the jaw muscles which in turn reduces the muscles in size. The result is a slimmer jaw line with results that can last an average of 4-6 months.
The benefits of this treatment are not only cosmetic, but medical also. People who grind their teeth at night (a condition known as Bruxism), will benefit from an improvement in this problem, as the muscles causing this to happen becomes relaxed with treatment. People with Bruxism may be aware of tooth damage, a tight sensation or stiffness in the jaw, headaches, jaw pain and disrupted sleep. For this reason, treatment to the masseter muscles can be a very rewarding experience, as it is able to reduce these symptoms in those that suffer them.
Another little known use of toxin injections to achieve excellent results is for treatment of the chin. The mentalis muscle forms the chin and can become enlarged or overactive. An overactive mentalis muscle results in chronic repetitive small contractions, which would not be noticeable as they are happening. However, the result of these continual movements is to distort the overlying skin, resulting in a ‘cobbled’ or ‘dimpled’ effect, resembling an orange peel in texture. Some people may instead notice a ‘mental crease’ which refers to a horizontal groove running between the chin and the lower lip. This creates an illusion of further emphasizing an over pronounced chin. With two precisely targeted injections into this area, the muscle will relax, which will in turn improve this appearance.
Both treatments described here – the Jaw Line (Masseters) and the Chin (Mentalis) – are short procedures with no downtime. No anaesthetic is required. Clients can return to their usual activities immediately following the procedure. The results develop over the following 2-3 weeks, peaking at around 8-10 weeks, and may last up to 4-6 months.
We are delighted to be able to offer these treatments at Face360 London. Please book a consultation with a doctor to discuss whether these treatments may be suitable for you
Frequently Asked Questions
Whilst Botox can help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by paralysing the muscle, the expectations of the treatment must be managed. The severity of the line, the location and the strength of the muscle are all factors that will affect the outcome of treatment. Your best bet is to have a face to face consultation with one of our Doctors, to assess your needs and offer advice on what treatment is best suited.
In a word, yes. Botox has been used for cosmetic and medical purposes for years, and as long as it is administered by a trained medical professional, you’re in safe hands. All our wrinkle treatments are done by trained and fully qualified doctors. See our Botulinum Toxin Patient Leaflet for more information.
There are known side effects for injectable treatments – such as some mild discomfort, minor bruising and in some rare cases clients may experience what is known as a ‘droopy’ eyelid. However these will either fade or can be corrected with a free follow up appointment with your doctor. Using a trained medical professional for your Botox treatment will help reduce the risk of complications.
That is completely up to you. We don’t administer ANY injectable treatment to anyone under the age of 18, and have clients who are in their 70’s! There’s a lot of talk these days about ‘preventative botox’, but it really does come down to you and your own circumstances. A lot of our clients started their Botox journey in their early 30’s – but it depends on skin type, genetics, environmental and lifestyle factors. Please make sure you seek proper advice and weigh up all the information before starting treatment.
No it is not permanent. Whilst the effects cannot be reversed once the treatment is complete, it will wear off in 3-6 months, dependent on your circumstances – such as environment or muscle strength. Any negative side effects such as minor bruising will go down within a few days, and no side effects are ever permanent.
Not at all. Once the Botox has worn off, the muscle will start working just as it did before. If Botox treatments are stopped, then yes over time there is every chance that a line or wrinkle will return. However, there is evidence to suggest that over time, muscle memory may kick in, and where you used to say for instance frown a lot, the effects of the Botox paralysing the muscle, may mean that in the future you just won’t use it as much even without Botox. This is of course not a guarantee, and effects do vary person to person.
